Open Thread

A couple videos for your viewing pleasure as we stumble back to full strength after an energizing convention weekend. Here's Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman trying to be funny and failing miserably.

Now here's Al Franken's far superior parody of Coleman's ad.

Seriously, Coleman's running against a comedian and he tries this?

What else is going on tonight?

Still pretty funny. Its a shame that Franken can't get himself going though.

I read the body count out of the paper; now it's written all over my face.

New poll shows Franken leading Coleman

A good example of (2.00 / 1)

counterpunching to effect. Now every time anyone sees the Coleman ad they also see the Franken parody in their mind.

McCain's negative (none / 0)

ad on energy actually has the countereffect of elevating Obama to the status of a pretty influential Senator if McCain is claiming that Obama is the one responsible for the energy crisis.

McCain sure is burning a lot of money on ads. It's almost as if he's running 1/2 of the Obama strategy against Hillary; the only problem is that Obama isn't going to run out of money.  McCain must be really worried that Obama could get away from him if he's running back-to-back negative ads.

Re: McCain's negative (none / 0)

A GOP shill on TV tonight said, "Normally I don't mind taking one for the team, but this ad is just bad any way you look at it."

McCain needs to spend his money by Sept. (none / 0)

His primary money needs to be spent, so he might as well burn it now.

Mccain is running a poor campaign as far as I am concerned.

I give McCain's performance level (none / 0)

a D+ since HRC dropped out; I had Obama's performance rated at around a C until this trip.  So far, Obama's trip has been an A but we'll see what happens the rest of the trip.  He probably wishes he could stop the trip now and get back home before something goes wrong.

LOL (none / 0)

I pretty much agree.  It's not going to get any better.  With that said, it seems like the remainder of the trip is going to be pretty soft and uneventful, save for his speech in Germany.  They really should just have him fly to there today, get that over with, and plop his ass back down in a swing state.

Maybe he'll do handstands... (2.00 / 1)

on the Eiffel Tower to amuse you.

Authorities in Berlin are preparing for a million spectators, which would instantly make Obama's speech the biggest political event in that country since unification in 1990. There are even plans to close down the street, a mile long, and replicate the setup during the World Cup with massive projection screens.

Yeah....he should have just come straight back home like McDesperate wishes he would.

I was at the Gate watching world cup games and it was INSANE.  If it is anything like that you will be able to feel the electricity through the TV set.

Agreed. It's been pretty unfocused, and filled with gaffes. Let's hope it continues that way.

Re: McCain's negative (none / 0)

As far as the money is concerned, McCain doesn't have a choice.  He has to spend the money before the convention.

A couple more ads like this, and Franken will be ahead again.

GO FRANKEN!

We need this seat to get to 60.

THIS is how you attack the "if we drill offshore we'll have lower gas prices" myth!!!!

Textbook!  I wish some of our democratic leaders would take the cue on this one... Obama, too!

As noted below... (none / 0)

Franken now has a small lead.  Coleman has always been kept under 50%....not good for an incumbent senator.

Thanks for your ill informed concern, though.

John McCain, maverick
by lojasmo on Tue Jul 22, 2008 at 06:07:35 AM EST

he brought hockey back (none / 0)

I know the GOP game plan is to run on local issues and try to prevent Democrats from nationalizing the election, but saying we should vote for Norm Coleman because he brought hockey back is like saying Bush isn't a bad president because he brought baseball back to Washington.

what happened when Franken tried to actually debate the issues!

Coleman FREAKED OUT!

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

You go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you want.  But seriously, I kind of wish we could have gotten Ceresi to stay in it long enough to win it but now I have to plop my ass down at the DFL booth at the state fair and try to get Bush Boy out of there.
